Create a task and track checklist completion

Tasks record a piece of work, who is responsible and what needs to be completed. This guide is for users with task-creation or management access; employees may have a more limited view of assigned work.

1)

Open Projects > Tasks or the relevant project’s task list and choose the create action.

2)

Enter the task title and instructions. Choose the appropriate project, people and available timing fields, checking the due date.

3)

If the task includes a checklist, give each item a clear name. Create real work as pending or in progress; do not tick unfinished items merely to finish creating the task.

4)

Review any approval and planning options that apply to your workflow, then save the task. Check the saved status and assignment.

5)

As work is performed, open the task using the access available to your role, record the checklist progress and add supporting information where required.

6)

Use the completion action when the work is ready. If approval is required, check the resulting waiting or returned state and follow the approver’s feedback.

Completion and approval are different

Submitting work for approval is not the same as final approval. A checklist shows progress within a task, while the task’s status shows its overall workflow. If the employee app does not allow opening or editing the task, use the permitted completion workflow or contact your manager.
